Killington Snowstorm

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Snowstorm = Me driving 90mph to Killington.  Unbelievable day.  No crowd, no lines, and skiing until 4pm when my legs were burning like fire and they wouldn’t let me back on the lift again.  Is there any sport out there better than skiing… I don’t think so.

Holiday Dinner at Adrians

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

I have been working non-stop on Graduate School applications.  I have it narrowed down to about 18 from 50 that I was looking at 2 weeks ago.  I’ve been working about 10 hours a day on the process so I guess it’s really convenient that I still don’t have a job.  I do have an interview with Eastern Mountain Sports on Monday though that I think is promising.  It’s been really stressful trying to email all the professors I need to, search for jobs, and spend time with family.  No room for much fun.   Scan0003Recently when I was visiting Chris downstairs at Elevate Cycles he told me about new protective body armor made by SIXSIXONE that he could order at about 45% of the retail value.  This past Tuesday I brought down a check for a grand and gave it to him to order a ton of gear that I plan on throwing on ebay.  Even if I sell it at 70% of the retail I stand to make a ton of cash.  I’m sure I’ll be able to sell the gear at what I bought it at so I don’t see how this scheme won’t work… Check out the picture to see what it looks like.  If this flies I’ll be able to use it as my sould source of income while I apply to schools and it won’t take up that much time… keepin’ my fingers crossed on this one.  Scan0006Anyway, back to the title of this entry… Adrian and his girflriend Kristin invited me over for dinner tonight at their place.  She had cooked delicious caseroles and a full turkey with all the fixings for an early christmas dinner.  It was delicious and just the break I needed from a hard day of emails and researching!  Thanks guys.  A week ago Josh, Jess and I decided that we should throw a Christmas party here and I made up some invitations and sent them out to our close friends.  The party is set for the 23rd and I hope a lot of people will be able to make it.  Should be a good time.

Begonia

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Cimg0949Woke up this morning to a dog staring at me… Begonia!!! Nick Kladis brought over his girlfriend Audra’s dog for Josh and to watch.  She’s not a very bright dog but follows you around and always wants attention.  She spent the entire afternoon laying in the sun on my bed, resulting in my bed becoming a sheet of shimmering gold hairs. haha…

Dads_christmas_hat_from_georgejpgWhen we learned last February that my father had Congestive Heart Failure no one in my family thought that he would see another birthday… We have been happily proven wrong.  Even though he undergoes dialysis every other day he is a fighter and is thankfully still with us and in good spirits.  I went down to visit him tonight for Dinner and told him that once Chris Hurley fixes his broken plane we plan on taking him up for one last flight over the High Peaks of the Adirondacks.  Happy birthday dad!  I love ya.  PS. That’s a great looking hat you got from my half brother George.  Pretty funny :)

Decorating our Christmas Tree

Saturday, December 3rd, 2005

Victoran_streetwalk_12105_19Josh and I picked up a Balsam for our Christmas Tree on Tuesday and we got to decorate it last night while getting very drunk off a bottle of wine and microbrews.  Josh and I got very lost out on route 29 somewhereVictoran_streetwalk_12105_02 and stumbled across some trees at Old Saratoga Home and Garden.  We decided to throw a Christmas party on the 23rd so we got lights for the apartment and stairs and ornaments etc.  Our apartment is very in the season right now.  Jess has a phobia with Tinsel so I put some on my head to go scare her but ended up swallowing about 4 strands and choking which prompted our good friend Rick Spratt to explain the details of tinsel…
"Be careful Jon, you might get the bird flu because tinsel is packaged in Indonesia, in fact, all good tinsel comes from indonesia" - What the?!  I went skiing today at Killington but I was pretty hung over and only stayed about 4 hours because the conditions were shitty also and there were too many people.  Taking it easy tonight and still recovering from last night.

Victorian Streetwalk

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

Victoran_streetwalk_12105_06Tonight was the Victorian Streetwalk in Victoran_streetwalk_12105_07Saratoga.  They blocked off the entrance to Broadway and all the stores were open.  There were a whole bunch of Santas walking around and one drunk one playing the sax.  There were reindeer and dancers and about 100 performers throughout the town.  I walked down with Kate and AdriaVictoran_streetwalk_12105_16n with his housemates.  It was very Christmasy.  We stopped into see Kristin at the Celtic shop then got some Chai which kept us warm… and me awake most of the night.  The best part of the whole night was seeing a giant 20 foot tall Wacky Wailing Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man in front of the city center.   People started filtVictoran_streetwalk_12105_17_1ering out of the crowded town around 10pm so we came home and met up with Josh, Rick and Jess and had a few drinks.  On the way home we saw a guy walking a Newfoundland (the biggest dog I’ve ever seen).  The head on it was the size of a small bears head it seemed and according to the owner it wasn’t even full grown yet.
